How does the Lock-On Grip System for Motocross/Enduros work?

The ODI Lock-On Grip System offers two advantages over traditional slip-on grips: they simplify the process of removing/replacing your grips and they prevent the slipping associated with normal grips (i.e. "throttle grip").  In order to achieve these two advantages, we have designed a different grip for the throttle and clutch side grips.

On the clutch side, we have molded a soft grip material over a harder plastic core.  This core allows the grip to slide on and off the bar easily.  The grip is locked into place via two aluminum clamps (one on either side of the grip) which lock the grip onto the bars like a vise.

On the throttle side, we have molded the grip onto the actual throttle tube making the the grip and throttle tube one unit*.  Thus, you replace this grip the same way you would a normal throttle tube.

For more specific information on how the system works, please go to our "How They Work Page".

*Except "Universal Throttle Connection Pack."  See below.

Why do I have to select a make and model for my Lock-On Grips?

As explained in the previous answer, the throttle side grip is molded directly to the throttle tube (for all models except the Universal Throttle Connection).  Thus, it is important that you select the proper throttle fitting for your bike.  The clutch side grip is universal and will fit on any bike.

What is the "Universal Throttle Connection Pack"?

The Universal Throttle Connection Pack is designed for people who only want to run a Lock-On Grip on the clutch side.  It includes a Lock-On Grip for the clutch side and a standard slip-on grip for the throttle side.  This pack is compatible with all makes of bikes and throttle systems.

My bike is not listed in your throttle connection guide.  Can I still use Lock-On grips?

-Or-  Do you have a grip system that will work with my aluminum throttle tube?

Our Universal Throttle Connection Pack will work on any bike.  It includes a Lock-On Grip for the clutch side and a standard slip-on model for the throttle side.  If you wish to continue using your existing throttle tube or we do not currently have a model that is compatible with your bike, this pack will allow you to run a lock on grip on the non throttle side with a matching grip that you can slide over your existing throttle tube.

Can I use hand guards with the Lock-On Grip System?

The Lock-On Grip System includes removable bar end plugs designed to protect your grips in the event of a crash.  These plugs can be left out or easily removed to accommodate hand guards or any other component on the end of your bars.

My initial set of grips are worn.  Where do I get replacement grips?

Replacement Packs without the Lock Jaw clamps are available to replace your initial grips.  These packs include the grips and end plugs only (your Lock Jaw Clamps can be reused with subsequent pairs of grips) for a slightly lower cost.  To find out where to purchase these sets, please visit our "Where To Buy" page.

Are Lock-On Grips thicker than my current dual-ply (dual-density) grips?

The Lock-On Grip System uses the same technology as a dual-ply or dual density grip with a soft layer of rubber being laid over a harder inner layer.  The inner layer of a Lock-On grip is simply harder than a standard dual compound grip allowing it to slide easily on and off your bars.  Thus, a Lock-On grip is the same diameter (or very close to) a set of dual compound grips once they are installed onto your bars.

Where can I buy your grips?

We are working very hard to get our grip system out to everyone who is interested.  To view a current listing of dealers who carry our product, please go to our "Dealers" page.  If there is no dealer near you, you can also purchase grips online at our eStore.

Will Lock-On Grips work with my brand of handlebars?

The Lock-On Grip System is designed to work with all handlebars that have a 7/8 inch outside diameter.  Most  of all handlebars on the market maintain this standard outside measurement.  Please note that the end plugs are designed to fit bars with an inside diameter from 13-20mm.  If your bars have a smaller or larger I.D. than this, you will still be able to install the grips, but the end plugs will not fit into your bars.

How do the Handlebar End Plugs Work?

Each set of ODI Lock-On Grips for MX/Enduros includes two sets of bar end plugs--one set of overlapping end plugs and one set of flat end plugs.  Both styles of end plugs are designed to protect your grips and to prevent dirt and debris from entering the handlebars.  The overlapping style is also designed to cover the outer Lock Jaw clamp for added safety.  A matching overlap end plug may be used on the throttle side, however if you ride with your hands on the outside of the grip you may experience some drag while using the this plug on the throttle side.  This problem can be alleviated by switching to the flat plug on the throttle side.

Our bar end plugs install in second with a phillips head screw driver and can be used in handlebars with inside diameters between 13mm and 20mm.

For added protection, you can also purchase our Aluminum Bard End Plugs by clicking here.  These function identically to the flat end plug, but feature a crash-resistant anodized aluminum head.
